Spine with five raised bands; compartments with gilt floral borders, a floral vignette, and a morocco label with gilt title and gilt stippled borders. Boards with blind-tooled borders; marbled endpapers. = A well-bound copy of one of the most important zoological periodicals - with numerous fine, well-illustrated monographs. Before 1875, the Transactions contained both zoological and botanical papers. In this volume we find, e.g., Haddon's On the extinct land-tortoises of Mauritius and Rodriguez; Collingwood's Some new species of nudibranchiate Mollusca from the eastern seas; Cobbold's The parasites of elephants; Francis Day's On the breeding of Salmon, and 16 other, mostly well-illustrated papers. Definitely rare, especially in such an attractive, contemporary binding as this one. Cat. BM(NH), p. 1151.
