Paris, E. Lacroix, 1871. 8vo. 623 pp. [viii, 479, 136]; large, folded, coloured map. Contemporary half cloth over marbled boards. Spine with handwritten paper label. = Written by the French geologist and mineralogist Achille Ernest Oscar Joseph Delesse (1817-1881) [the "M" merely means Monsieur, as often in 18th-19th century France]. The preface is dated 1866, but the dedication bears the date 1871. Includes the large (136 pp.) section with "tableaux", often regarded as a second volume and lacking in other copies. The folded, coloured map shows Great Britain and Ireland. The former owner name Marshall written on the front free endpaper recto. Slight shelf wear, label partly chipped, otherwise a very good, clean and complete copy.
