One of the first edition copies of this fantasy romance written by Francis W. Brouillon, printed as number VII of the Saint George Series, which began publication around 1920 and consisted of shorter classics with a small press look and feel. Francis W. Bourdillon was a British poet and translator, best known for his short poem The Night has a Thousand Eyes. Gerard and Isabel was written in the form of chantefable, a form that was used in Medieval French literature and consists of alternate spoken and sung passages. With unclipped dustwrapper and in the original publisher's quarter vellum binding, with paper covered boards. In the original publisher's quarter paper vellum binding with blue paper covered boards and titles printed in gilt to spine. Externally, in lovely condition. Dustwrapper is unclipped and very smart with minor shelfwear only and minor chipping to internal fly-leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Faint off setting to free endpapers, otherwise pages are bright and clean, printed in black and red. Top edge painted in gilt. Fine . Ill.: None. Fine/Near Fine.
