London, J Huggonson, 1734. First edition. Disbound. A very scarce, first edition of this poetical parody regarding James Pitt, William Arnall, Baron Hervey and Dr Sherwin. An extremely scarce work, with the only copy on LibraryHub held at the Britsih Library. ESTC reference no: T51993. Collated, complete. In the title 'Squire Walsingham' is a pseudonym for William Arnall, Mother Osborne is a pseudonym of James Pitt. Arnall and Pitt founded the pro-Walpole Daily Gazetteer using the pseudonym Francis Walsingham and Mother Osborne. 'Horace to Fannius' is an imitation of Carm. ii. 8. In addition to this, 'apology for printing a certain nobleman's epistle to Dr Sh-w--n' referes to John, Baron Hervey as the Nobleman and Dr Sherwin as the addressee of the Epistle. With the text in Latin and English. A very scarce parody of this classical piece of literature. Disbound, as issued. Externally, bright with scattered spots. Ink spill to the top edges. Final leaf is detached but present. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with light scattered spots to pages. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
