1938. MALVERN, Gladys & Corinne. LAND OF SURPRISE! Springfield, MA: McLoughlin Bros. 1938. 4to. blue cloth backed boards, pictorial paper label to front board. A novelty book; text and pictures printed in black and orange, with the orange portions of art and text on the verso of each sheet obscured by an overlying orange glassine leaf -- when the glassine leaf is lifted up, the "hidden" extra portions of text and pictures are revealed. The book lacks two of these glassine leaves; in addition, those present have faded slightly toward the perimeters, rendering the "trick" slightly less effective than when the book was newly published. Else there is slight sunning and edgewear to the boards, and a touch of soil to a few pages. About very good, in a much worn dust jacket, with a large chip the rear panel. .
