Illustrated with 9 fold-out plates with maps of the sieges.First the fortress town of Ciudad Rodrigo was besieged, which allowed for the capture of Badajoz. The siege of Badajoz was one of the bloodiest in the Napoleonic Wars and was considered a costly victory by the British, with some 4,800 Allied soldiers killed or wounded in a few short hours of intense fighting. Filled with rage, the troops went on a rampage; breaking into homes, stealing, and even killing. It took three days before the order was restored.
