Soft cover. Royal octavo. Pp. 15. Plus 4 mounted plates. Original stiff wrapper printed in red and black, old institutional stamp to title-page, numerous annotations in pencil in neat contemporary hand, and some underlining in coloured crayon. In a very good condition, crisp plates ~ FIRST EDITION. Of utmost rarity. After the experience of the First World War increased the need of longer range canons. In 1924 the Hollandsche Industrie- en Handelmaatschappij was commissioned by the Ministry of War to improve the Canon 7 cm. The Company chose to do this by extending the length of the barrel, by modernising the carriage, and by using thinner shells which could reach greater speed. This publication documents this undertaking. The mounted plates are most uncommon and seem to be original gelatine silver prints tinted in deep blue. Measuring 11x19 cm, each is mounted within printed frame and captioned underneath. The four plates show the canon 7 cm, L30 and L35, mounted on the modernised carriage and in different elevation positions i.e. 5 and 40 degrees, respectively. E-4 IN .
