The first edition of this work. A scarce work. In the original Latin. A biography of the life of Tommaso Valperga Caluso. Caluso was an Italian philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, and physicist. He was also a member of the congregation of the Oratory. Caluso was an excellent linguist, learning English, French, Spanish, and Arabic, and also knew Coptic, Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. At the University of Turin he taught Oriental languages, and was also the director of the astronomical observatory of Palazzo Madama. The author, Italian philologist Carlo Boucheron, was under the guidance of Caluso, who taught him Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. Boucheron later went on to teach Greek literature at the University of Turin. With a half-title. With a vignette to the title page. Bound without the frontispiece. In paper covered boards. Externally, sound. Loss to the spine and to the front joint. Rubbing, marking, and discolouration to the boards. Spine label is lifting a little. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front board.
