Crawford, F. C. - Anatomy of the British carices.Edinburgh, Oliver and Boyd, 1910. 4to (25.0 x 17.7 cm). Frontispice (photo of the author in kilt, with his dog and autograph), xv, 124 pp.; 20 plates. Original green, embossed cloth with gilt title on the spine. Top edge gilt. = The author was a successful businessman, and ardent student of the genus Carex. He died the week after he brought the manuscript to the printer's, as noted in the short biography by A. J. Pressland on the first pages. This is followed by an introduction (more or less a second short biography) by Isaac Balfour of the Edinburgh Royal Botanic Garden, who did the final editing. As stated on the title page the work was "printed for private circulation" and most certainly it is quite rare. There are less then 20 liberary copies. Front boards lightly bumped at the top edge, otherwise a fine, clean copy. Definitely very rare in this state. BM(NH) Cat. Suppl. I, p. 239.
