Phillimore in 1887 as a private scheme to publish indexes to British public records. The library was taken over the following year by 'The British Record Society'; a learned society that focuses on publishing historic records, and indexes to such records. William Phillimore Watts Phillimore was a renowned English solicitor, genealogist and publisher, who initiated the foundation of the following record publication societies: The Index Library The Scottish Record Series The Thoroton Society of Nottinghamshire The Canterbury and York Society The Irish Record Society. The records in this volume are arranged in chronological and alphabetical order. With publisher's advertisements to the rear of the work, dated 'January 1893&apos. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt stamped title and design to front board and spines. Externally lovely, with minor shelf wear to extremities and very slight fading to spine.
