A work of travel writing from Boswell's time travelling throughout the county of Holland taking the form of a diary and letters, many of which are addressed to Samuel Johnson. James Boswell as a important biographer and diarist of the 18th century. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1740 he is best known for his biography of Samuel Johnson. Edited by Frederick A Pottle, the Sterling Professor of English at Yale University. Illustrated with 13 plates and 1 folding plate. Collated complete. In the publisher's original quarter vellum binding, with cloth covered boards and held a glassine wrap and the original slipcase. Externally smart, with light marks to the spine. Held in the original glassine dustwrapper with light chips to the head and tail of the spine and also to the extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with several pages uncut. The volume is in the original slipcase, with heavy patches of rubbing to the extremities and light cockling to the slipcase. Fine . Ill.: Unamed.
