A lovely example of this scarce work, featuring a collection of essays in a the form of a series of letters written by John Foster. Foster was an essayist and Baptist minister of the late 18th and early 19th century, who is best remember for his essay 'Essay on the Evils of Popular Ignorance&apos. This particular work features four essays as follows: Essay I. On A Man's Writing Memoirs of Himself (In seven letters); Essay II. On Decision of Character (In six letters); Essay III. On The Application of The Epithet Romantic (In five letters); Essay IV. On Some of The Causes By Which Evangelical Religion Has Been Rendered Unacceptable to Persons of Cultivated Taste (In nine letters). In a full morocco binding. Externally smart, with patches of rubbing to the spine, raised bands and extremities. Light rubbing marks to the front and rear pastedowns and endpapers. Internally firmly bound.
