Chaisneau, C. - Tableau élémentaire d'histoire naturelle, contenant les trois regnes de la nature; ouvrage insdispensable à toutes personnes qui étudient cette science.

Paris, Pillot, Fantin, 1806. Folio (33.5 x 25.0 cm). 43 pp.; 38 large, folding charts. Contemporary full tree calf. Intricate gilt borders. Spine with empire vignettes. Marbled endpapers. Rare work on the order and systematics of the three kingdoms of nature, viz. the animal kingdom, the plants, and the minerals. A few years earlier, the author had the same work published with a slightly different title. Both editions are very rare. The "Avis au Relieur" states that the work should contain 38 tableaux, namely one general, 12 (including two bis plates) in zoology in which the author follows the classification of Buffon, Daubenton, de Lacepede, de Reaumur, Geoffroy St. Hilaire, d'Olivier, and others, and including separate tables for the birds, the herpetology, the molluscs, insects, etc.; 11 for the botany (including one bis plate), and 14 with the mineralogy. All are present. Spine and panels in fair condition, maybe in need of repair. Old bookplate on front paste-down, small dampstain to lower inner corner of the text pages, otherwise a very good internally clean, complete copy.
