Portrait of Jan Floris Martinet, Dutch historian, writer, theologian and preacher. He is portrayed in profile, sitting on a chair with a hat in his hand, resting on the lap. The right hand reaches out in the direction of an opened window. Outside the window a river landscape with a rainbow in the distance. Four lines of Dutch text below: "En ik zal, uwe Afbeelding ziende, seggen: / dit, dit is het Gelaat van mynen Leermeester / (JOHANNES FLORENTIUS MARTINET), / dat en dat heeft hij mij geleerd... / Bladz. 476."; signed below: "Ren.r Vinkeles ad vivum del: et sculp. 1778 / J.
