His story of Tom and Elsie as trasmuted 'water-babies' is considered one of the first 'literary' responses to Darwin's work. This tale was written and published two years prior to ALICE IN WONDERLAND and is one of the earliest fantasies for children written by an English author - Megan Webster.'
