Translated from the Latin..Originally Published at Amsterdam in the Year 1768. Philadelphia: Francis & Robert Bailey, 1796. First U.S. edition; the same translation was published in London two years previously. xxxii, 521 pp. 8vo. contemporary boards, 3/4 brown leather printed in gilt to spine; lettering piece missing, all edges green. Foxing to text and end pages with some dampstaining to fore-edges. Boards are worn, dampstained and cracked at joints with upper board a bit loose; with chipping to head and tail of scaling leather spine and lightly bumped corners. An interesting moral and religious dissertation on marriage and sexual relations (the glossary defines "scortatory," as the opposite of conjugal: sections include Fornication, Concubinage, the Lusts of Defloration, Varieties, Violation, Seducing Innocents, etc.). This is (19th Century New England) Reverend Samuel Worcester's copy with bookplate and signature, in good plus condition. .
