Five essays in total, comprising of 'Drawings by the Old Masters', 'James Barry', 'Sir Joshua Reynolds', 'Thomas Gainsborough' and 'Rossetti's Influence in Art&apos. J Comyns Carr was an English drama and art critic, gallery director, author, poet and playwright. Carr was an advocate for Pre-Raphaelite art and a vocal critic of the 'short-sighted' art establishment. In a half calf binding with gilt stamping to the spine. Externally, rubbed to the extremities and to the joints. Patches of rubbing to the spine, mostly to the raised bands and to the head and tail of spine. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Prior owner's inscription to the verso of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Spotting to the first and last few pages with just the odd spot to textblock.
