Plus 3 finely engraved and contemporary hand-coloured folding plates bound at end, two of which are forest maps and one a handsome illustration of the Belladonna plant, its flower and fruit. HARDCOVER, bound in contemporary plain paper-covered boards, bit rubbed, red speckled edges, cracked gutter towards end due to heaviness of plates, very short trace of worm tunnelling at bottom of lower inner hinge. In a very good condition. Overall a fine copy, well preserved, with rather excellent plates, very clean interior, solid binding. ~ FIRST EDITION. Wilhelm Heinrich Käpler (1740-1805). It was his father, also a forester, that introduced Käpler to practical forestry and the art of hunting. In 1769 he became head forester to the Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and in 1779 Wildmeister in Ostheim. Following his father's footsteps, he constantly directed his efforts at improving the condition of the forests entrusted to him. He wrote and educated extensively. Extremely rare. I-2 IN .
