Hedley Vicars was a British Army officer and evangelical who was killed in action during the Crimean War. 17.5cms x 12cms x 2cms. Pp.xii/315, engraved portrait frontispiece and title page, gift message to front free endpaper, minor cracking to inside front hinge (holding frim). Red cloth, gilt title to front, title to spine dulled, boards rubbed. G+.** Catherine Marsh or Miss C. M. Marsh (1818 – 1912) was born in Colchester. She was an English philanthropist and author writing about soldiers and navvies during the 1850s.
