London: The R.T.S. Office, nd. (c.1931). Christian moral story about the son of Harry Johnson, a black widower who, travelling England with his son Joe, comes to the village of Brockley. He wants to go back to South Carolina and knows he can work his passage but cannot afford the fare for Joe. The vicar agrees to look after Joe until his father gets home and can send the fare. Written in a 'Black Minstrel' vernacular of its time! Pp.224, colour frontispiece by Gordon Browne, colour presentation plate to front free endpaper, occasional minor spotting to margins, spotting to closed page edges. Brown illustrated cloth, minor edge wear. G+.
