Issued as a volume of L'UNIVERSE; Histoire et description de tous les peuples. De Rochelle served as French Minister to the United States. This work, a well known piece of Americana, includes much material, including plates, on the Indians, early American settlers, politics, etc. A good copy only in that the wrapper is chipped at the extremities and, for the most part, gone at the spine, thus the binding is just barely held together. Most of the plate gatherings have been re-sewn, though the sewing is well away from the images. The text and plates themselves are clean and bright, with only occasional light foxing.
