The silk bands which form part of the binding are in Owen's racing colours. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ A biography of Edward Roderic Owen [ 1856 - 1896 ] champion jockey & soldier. His racing career came to a splendid conclusion by winning the 1892 Grand National on `Father O'Flynn'. Days later he was bound for Africa, seeing action in Nigeria ( Jebu War ) Uganda, Sudan, India & Afghanistan & Egypt. It was in Egypt that he died, succumbing to Cholera.
