Amsterdam, Abraham de Wees, 1659. 12mo. W. woodcut vignet, engr. front. w. portrait of Cromwell. Contemp. full vellum. (XII, 342 pp.). (Upper free endp. w. 19th c. manuscript annotations; righthand margin occasionally a bit short, cutting into a few marginal annotations here and there, nothing serious though.). Comp. Lowndes vol. I, 378, mentioning the first English edition of the same year. First Dutch edition. Translated by Lambertus van den Bosch, born around 1610, date of death unknown, but around 1698 - 1700. Van den Bosch was a prolific author, well versed in Greek, Latin, English, French, Spanish and Italian, which allowed him to translate a wide variety of publications. Many of these works have become rare, not all of them are worthwhile. Van den Bosch tried his hand at poetry, prose, historical pieces, drama etc. Mostly it seems pot boilers. Carrington's "Life of Cromwell" is a rare Dutch translation. A very good copy.
