BUTLER, Ellis PArker - Perkins of Portland: Perkins the GreatBoston, Herbert B. Turner & Co, 1906. Hardcover. 12mo. Burgundy cloth with ivory and blue lettering and pictorial stamping. 135pp. Frontispiece, 4 full-page called-for plates. Very good. Mildest of binding wear, with ivory spine lettering heavily rubbed, else tight and internally near fine. Attractive first edition. Interestingly, Butler's hometown of Muscatine, Iowa (renamed Riverbank) is where this copy has resided for the past 100+ years and was often the setting of his novels -- not this one, but pencilled 1906 ownership signature on front flyleaf of James W. Casey is likely a relative of the James W. Casey who first established a steamboat supply depot in what became Muscatine in the 1830s. .
