BROWN, William H. - An Historical Sketch of the Early Movement in Illinois for the Legalization of Slavery, Read at the Annual Meeting of the Chicago Historical Society, December 5th, 1864Chicago, Fergus Printing Company, 1876. Paperback. 8vo. Stiff salmon wrappers. 31pp. Partly uncut. Very good. Chip at upper left corner of front wrapper and a tad rough cut along top edge; partly uncut. Tight and nice first edition of this address by the attorney, anti-slavery advocate and friend of Lincoln (1796-1867) and president of the Chicago Historical Society who should know well whereof he spoke -- he entered Illinois in 1818 less than one month after it achieved statehood! Very uncommon. .
