c. 1820. Hand drawn copy of a barber's sign, 110 x 160 mm. from a Georgian scrapbook. A lovely and inventive use of the barber's own implements to form his trade sign, here made into the form of a trade card. "Oh, Absalom, Absalom, unlucky Pig Why didst not wear a Periwig For had thy hapless head been shaved Thy life had certainly been saved." "This is a true copy of a sign over a Barber's strop at Lewes, Sussex, his name W. Inkpen being formed with the implements of his trade."
