Between the wars the German army was somewhat in the Doldrums but in 1935 Rommel's Mountain Battalion was chosen to provide the guard of honour for the Chancellor, Adolf Hitler. When war was declared Hitler asked him w hat command he would like and rommel replieed a panzer division.
