Contemporary blind quarter cloth over marbled boards. = Rare illustrated work on geology, petrography and mineralogy of mountains by the German medical doctor and palaeontologist and palaeobotanist Georg Friedrich [Von] Jaeger (or Jäger) (1785-1866), who was also the first to describe ichthyosaurs (see ADB, vol. 13, pp. 648-649). He refers in his introduction to Sedgwick, Murchison, Roth and others. Small pictorial fair label on front pastedown; occasional very weak foxing, otherwise an excellent copy. Cat. BM(NH) 2, p. 919.
