ALBERT PALACE, BATTERSEA PARK - Programme Tuesday, April 20th. [1886]

Albert Palace, William Holland, sole proprietor, 1886. Bifolium, 270 x 210 mm. printed in green, sepia and black. The Albert Palace was adapted from part of the exhibition hall originally constructed for the Dublin Exhibition of 1865 which was dismantled and brought over to London in 1882. It opened in 1885, but since it was not free to enter, unlike other attractions, it soon encountered financial difficulties and closed in 1888, the land eventually going to building developers. This represents that brief period of activity and includes musical recitals, variety entertainment, a picture gallery and similar events. The back page advertises contemplated events including fireworks displays, balloon ascents, circus, pet shows, etc.
