C & J Rivington, J & A Arch [and many others],, 1825. 2 vols., 8vo., with copper-engraved frontispiece (first volume), engraved frontispiece FINELY COLOURED BY HAND (second volume), and 2 engraved plates, uncoloured frontispiece and plates mildly spotted, neat contemporary signature on front free endpaper versos, all text remarkably crisp and clean; elegantly bound in contemporary full tan calf, sides with gilt frame border, backs with raised bands, second and fifth compartments with green leather labels lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments richly tooled in gilt to a floral design, red sprinkled edges, grey endpapers, second volume expertly rehinged, a most attractive copy. With the engraved nineteenth century bookplate of Richard Crozier on front paste-downs. The arrangement of the texts is Aikin's from the 1802 edition, and includes J. White's Advertisement (though he is not mentioned in the list pf publishers). The History is followed by the Letters to Pennant and Barrington, More Particulars of the Family Tortoise, the Comparative View, Observations with Markwick's remarks, Mitford's Notes, Weather Summary and Poems.
