PROFESSOR HUBERT VON HERKOMER - The Fine Art Society requests the honour of a visit from Hon Sir J. Bacon and friends to a private view of works by Professor Herkomer R.A. and his pupils on Saturday the 30th April, 1892.

The Fine Art Society, 1892. Large etching on card, 215 x 215 mm. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. Hubert von Herkomer [1849 - 1914] was a painter, pioneering film maker and composer best known as a portrait artist. He painted Queen Victoria on her deathbed as an alternative to the wax death mask which Edward VII decried. He was Slade Professor of Art at Oxford University and he founded the Herkomer School of Art at Bushey in 1883 which he directed without payment until his retirement in 1904.
