Contemporary full calf, spine with five raised bands and title label, marbled edges, worn and hinges starting to split. Internally clean and crisp. Copy of Signet Library, with gilt crest on covers. First edition, scarce. A narrative of the Nilgiri Mountains (or Blue Mountains), bordering the Karnataka Plateau and the states of Kerala in southern India. It's a mountainous region that was unknown to the British until 1818, but later became their favourite summer and weekend getaway.
