Straight grained morocco gilt, F. 312pp, engraved frontis, engraved title, letterpress title, marbled endpapers, paper a little yellowed & soiled, leather very slightly rubbed, faint water stain to the top corner of the text block more noticable to the title & preliminary pages, but still a nice attractive pocket edition. Ownership inscription of William Porter Lowe of Birmingham dated 1832 on the first blank. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ Small single volume edition of Butler's satirical poem on the English Civil War. Butler was a staunch Royalist & the poem, published a few years after the Restoration of Charles II was hugely popular. Samuel Butler [ 1613 - 1680 ] author & satirist who was influenced freely by Cervantes & Rabelais.
