UNWIN Raymond - Town Planning in Practice. An Introduction to the Art of Designing Cities and SuburbsLondon, T Fisher Unwin, 1909. xxxii, 416pp, 7 fold-out maps & plans, and 298 ills (photos, plans, maps etc), bibliog. 25x20, green cloth w/ glt decoration and lettering, top edge glt. Light foxing on most pages, slight marking to corners of cloth, this otherwise very bright, all maps complete and intact. A few pencil margin lines next to the text, otherwise very good copy. Rare first edition of Unwin's famous survey of town planning, particularly its artistic and layout aspects, inspired by their work at Letchworth Garden City in particular, but also by examples of sensitive city planning in Germany. Peter Hall wrote that 'Unwin and Parker raised the art of civic design to a level of pure genius, after which almost everything else was pedestrian anticlimax.' A wonderful book.
