Hunter became a celebrity with the publication of this work, first in Philadelphia, and then in London where it went through a number of editions rapidly. He returned to America, only to be murdered in 1828 by the Cherokees over a boundary dispute in Texas. Though accurate in details, the truth of this narrative has long been questioned. Sabin 33921.
