J & WB SMITH, LONDON - Gas Fittings, Globes and Accessories: Supplement to General Catalogue 1908-9

London 1908 153pp, ills throughout 31x25, stapled card wraps. Wraps tatty, staples rusting, corner of several pages creased, fair thus. Smith's had started life as glass cutters in Edinburgh in the 1830s. By the 1880s the firm was also established in London and specialised in glass for lamps and shades. A period of significant expansion in the first decade of the new century followed, with the firm now selling electric light fittings. The firm was taken over in 1926 by Lighting Trades Ltd, which in turn was bought out by ICI in 1930. The insert advertises their tradmarked 'Glasmi' gas burner.
