OLYMPIC GAMES - Souvenir of the Great Olympic Games to be Opened by His Most Gracious Majesty the King at the Franco-British Exhibition, Shepherd's Bush, from July 13 to 25, 1908.

Mrs S. Burgess, 1908. Single sheet 380 x 390 mm, wood block printing on crepe paper, borders in three colours, a little frayed along the top edge. Originally due to be held in Rome, the IV Olympiad was moved to London due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The Games took place at White City alongside the Franco-British Exhibition which at the time was held to be the more noteworthy event. Mrs Burgess printed a large quantity of commemorative handkerchiefs in the years prior to the Great War, many using the same decorative borders.
