This brief but quite attractive General Order notes simply that "Major General FRANZ SIGEL, U.S. Volunteers, is assigned to the command of the Department of West Virginia." Signed at the conclusion in type by Assistant Adjutant General W.A. Nichols. Accompanied by a superb Civil War-era 5½" X 9" heavy stock steel-engraved head-and-shoulders portrait of Sigel. Fine. .
