The historie`and the "Sermons" were written by a contemporary of the real Franciscan Friar Corn. Adriaensz. Brouwer [1521-81] of Brugge and based on historical facts. The author describes several secret meetings where - Brother` Cornelius flagellates women, preferably young and good-looking, in order to make them "obedient" The author has a very sharp and violent pen, especially when the Dutch reformists are concerned.
