ACQUOY, J.G.R. - Herman de Ruyter. Naar uitgegeven en onuitgegeven authentieke documenten.

 1561282517,
's Hertogenbosch, G.H. van der Schuyt, 1870. Original printed wrappers. II,77 pp. Herman de Ruyter (ca. 1540 - 1570) was a Dutch geuzen leader, known for his capture of Loevestein in 1570. In the 19th century, De Ruyter became a national hero, mainly because the story started to circulate that he, as a kind of foreshadowing van Jan van Speijk, who had blown himself up with part of the castle with gunpowder. That turned out to be untrue, in fact De Ruyter had been killed in hand-to-hand combat between the geuzen and the Spanish soldiers.
