KOENE, Bert. - De mensen van Vossenburg en Wayampibo. Twee Surinaamse plantages in de slaventijd![]() Hilversum, Verloren, 2019. Wrappers. With many illustrations. 256 pp. Gerard de Vree became the owner of the plantations Vossenburg and Wayampibo in 1698. His notes have been preserved. After his death in 1726 to 1863, the plantations were owned by the Brantsen family, who managed their Surinamese property from the Netherlands. This led to an extensive correspondence. Based on this material, Bert Koene describes the fortunes of the people involved in the two plantations. Unfortunately, the plantation slaves themselves did not leave any testimonies.
