W CLOWES AND SONS - London Society: The Christmas Number for 1865

London, W. Clowes and Sons 1865 570pp, many bw illustrations throughout. 24x15, half bound in red leather, marbled end papers. A little foxing to some pages, very slight shelf wear to the bottom edge, a few pages creased or chipped, good thus. Full of stories and poetry, this not always of the highest quality, but the highlight are the drawings, which are often excellent and rather better than the words that they illustrate! Artists in this number include George Du Maurier, Thomas Morten, Alfred Bayes, Mary Ellen Edwards et al.
