Title in red & black. Decorated headpiece to each section. Giving the roots and history of Anchorites, Coenobites, and the Franciscan order, this little volume also looks at the vows and discipline of the monks, monkish legends, and "the pernicious tendency of Monasticism, viewed in a Moral, Physical, and Scriptural Light." - See Contents page.
