First editions. Garcin de Tassy, French orientalist who devoted his life to the study of Urdu. He spent fifty years reading and writing about the language and its literature. He was one of the founders and later president of the Société Asiatique. He compiled these two works to be used by students learning the Urdu language. The first work is an outline grammar and the second comprises twenty-one letters written with different styles of composition, and in different scripts (nasta'liq, shikasteh and nagari).
