London, The Ray Society, 1866. Large 4to (36.1 x 26.1 cm). viii, [i], 312 pp.; several text engravings, six lithographed plates. Black cloth with gilt title on the spine. A rare compilation on whales, published in the famous series of Ray Society publications. This English compilation was aimed at reaching a broader audience. The first paper, by Eschricht and Reinhardt was first published in Danish in 1861, the second, by Eschricht alone, was earlier published in Danish in 1862; the third by Reinhardt was first published in Danish too, whereas the last (by Lilljeborg) was first published in Swedish. Small stamp (cancelled) on title verso; otherwise a very good, clean copy.
