Introduction states, "The anatomical copper-plates of the Italian doctor and anatomist Bartholomaeus Eustachius, though unpublished 150 years after their creation and forgotten by contemporary and succeeding generations alike, have been recognized since their sensational rediscovery and first publication by Lancisi in 1714 as a document of the greatest importance in the history of medicine.
