ROSÉN VAN ROSENSTEIN, N. - Handleiding Tot De Kennis En Geneezing Van De Ziekten Der Kinderen

Den Haag, Isaac Van Cleef. 1779, 2-nd Ed. [Dutch]. Half Calf. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book, LIV-495 PP. Vol.I only. Translated from the Swedish by Eduard Sandifort here in the enlarged, second Dutch edition.A medical classic, this lengthy treatise on paediatrics, with points as [e.g.] breast-feeding, colds and fever, teeth, stupor, smallpox, coughs, meazles etc. etc. Nils Rosén von Rosenstein (1706-1773) of Sweden is usually called the founder of modern pediatrics. His textbook, which was published in 1764, was, according to Still, the most progressive which had yet been written. He is without doubt, Sweden's most heroic medical figure. The Parentalia published by John Flodero in 1775 for this "most noble lord, archiatro and knight of the Polar Star" proclaimed the many honors that came his way. But the most lasting monument to his memory was his textbook of pediatrics which was published in 1764 and served for the next 200 years as a model for subsequent pediatric treatises. The description of the clinical course of whooping cough in Rosén von Rosenstein's book gives a lucid account of the clinical course of the disease, including the typical paroxysms. Title page soiled, ink-stains and notes in an old hand, as is also the final blank. Original 1/2 calf gilt lettering, spine a trifle cracked. See: BMN: 280. [ This is Vol.I only!]. Good.
