Spine faded and spine label unreadable, bottom corners of cover rubbed, plates crockled from old damp stain, now cleaned, generally good copy. Mahan was professor of military and civil engineering at Westpoint. He had been educated in France. His was one of the most comprehensive early American texts on the subject and this edition was issued for the British market with a slightly amended title.
