Hungarian artist Joseph Domjan tells the tale of a humble woodcutter who can understand the language of birds. He retrieves the king's ring, which has been swallowed by a peacock, and as a reward claims a recalcitrant princess for his bride. Domjan's gorgeously patterned color woodcuts, which illustrate the story, are included in the permanent collections of a number of museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Very good .
