Longmand Green & Co.,, 1906. 8vo., First Edition thus, with portrait frontispiece (original tissue guard present), numerous illustrations (a number full-page) in the text and full-page map; handsomely bound in contemporary green haldf calf, sides ruled in gilt, back with five bands tooled in gilt, seconf compartment ruled and lettered in gilt, all other compartmnents elaborately tooled in gilt, giltop, marbled endpapers, backstrip very lightly dulled else a most attractive, bright, crisp copy. With the prize bookplate of Harrow School (dated 1907) on front paste-down. A handsome copy of the first single-volume edition, based on the two-volume first edition of 1890. This edition retains Nansens's preface, adds a new preface by Longman and preserves the great majority of the illustrations of the original.
